MEMBERS' CODE OF ETHICS
1. COMPLIANCE WITH THE CODE OF ETHICS
Each member, upon signing an application for membership or renewal of membership of the C.A.T. Inc., and being elected to the general membership of the C.A.T. Inc., shall in addition to agreeing to be bound by the Constitution, Rules and Regulations of the C.A.T Inc., be also bound by the C.A.T Inc. Code of Ethics relating to responsible cat ownership, including the keeping, welfare, breeding and disposing of cats by members to the effect of the terms and conditions set out under section 2 below.
2. CODE OF ETHICS AND UNDERTAKING
(a) I shall ensure that at all times all cats under my control are properly housed, fed, watered, exercised, and receive proper veterinary attention, if and when required.
(b) I shall not seek to have any cat in my possession de-clawed or de-voiced. 23/1/10
(c) I shall breed primarily for the purpose of improving the standard of the breed, and not specifically for the pet market or any other commercial purpose.
(d) I shall not breed more kittens than I can reasonably place.
(e) Excepting in exceptional circumstances, I shall not sell or transfer from care any kitten under ten (10) weeks of age, thus allowing for its first vaccination to be given and for it to be microchipped and desexed. 24/11/12
(f) I shall endeavour to ensure that all persons acquiring cats from me clearly understand their responsibility for the care and welfare of the animal, and that they have the time and facilities to perform their obligations.
(g) I shall provide to all purchasers of cats sold or placed by me, advice as required, of all dietary and immunisation requirements and written instructions relating to such requirements and responsible cat ownership.
(h) I shall accept reasonable financial responsibility for the health status of kittens sold by me for a period of two (2) weeks after leaving my care. This is to cover the purchaser and the kitten for any infectious disease the kitten may have been incubating when in my care. My responsibility under this clause shall not extend to health matters wholly arising from the actions of the purchaser.
(i) I shall not knowingly misrepresent the characteristics of the breed, nor falsely advertise, nor mislead any person regarding the attributes of the cat.
(j) I shall ensure when selling or transferring a cat to another person, whenever appropriate, documents as required by the C.A.T. Inc. will be provided to the purchaser and/or transferee.
(k) I will comply with all State and Local Government laws concerning the keeping, management and welfare of cats.
(l) When a kitten is delivered by a third party then it is then it is the responsibility of the breeder to ensure that the third party conforms to all preceding points of this code.
(m) While a cattery is in quarantine, no person either owning or residing at that cattery shall attend any cat related meeting without prior knowledge and permission of all persons likely to attend that meeting, or visit any other cattery or the home of any other exhibitor without the prior knowledge and permission of all the persons concerned as outlined in Rule 29.9.
(n) In accordance with the rules of C.A.T. Inc. no entire cat/kitten may be re-homed with intent to use as a breeding animal more than three (3) times after leaving its initial home (i.e. its breeder) before becoming de-sexed and if necessary, petted out to a new home. Home number one is the first home after being sold, leased, loaned, gifted, temporarily re-homed or willed. C.A.T. Inc. will not register progeny from cats which do not comply with this rule. 18/3/08
(o) No member of C.A.T inc. may advertise a cattery sellout.
3. No pet kitten is to be sold by a C.A.T. Inc. registered breeder without it being desexed. 24/11/12
4. Any member failing to observe any provisions of the Code of Ethics may be dealt with under the Rules of the C.A.T. Inc.
